Hello St. Croix Tech Community,
Each year, we apply for a federal grant from the Carl Perkins Career and Technical Education Act. This grants enables us to upgrade our shops and labs so students are using the latest tools and equipment in their trade areas. It also provides resources for students to earn industry recognized credentials and supports the professional development of our teachers, keeping them current with the latest industry trends.
I am asking for your help in preparing next year’s application. We need feedback from a wide range of stakeholders, including students, families, businesses, and educators, from all of Eastern Washington County.

Our Culinary Arts students catered a meal on Wednesday, Feb 14th, for our Washington County Superintendents. Culinary Arts instructor Mrs. Eagan and the students decided on a menu of filet mignon, scallops, roasted root vegetables, baked potato, salad with deep fried mozzarella and strawberry shortcake for dessert. The students did an excellent job preparing and serving the meal.

Ms. Remington's Early Childhood Education's Discovery School had a blast on todays field trip visiting Ms. Eagan's Culinary class. Dancing, cookie decorating, and cotton candy were all on the menu of fun.

Here is a great opportunity for seniors to learn about BIW's Apprenticeship Program. They will be holding on-the-spot interviews for those interested in applying.

Mr. Ginn's Automotive Technology students are hard at work. They are learning how to work with low profile tires, tearing apart a motor to find an antifreeze leak and changing a wheel bearing. The work ethic shown is very impressive.

Computer Technology instructor Mr. Robert Finn has been working diligently on his program. The recently added 3D printer has been a big hit not only with students but staff as well. They are hoping to host a fundraiser with student-made creative projects. Student Sam Moores, pictured, is working on a server and has just completed setting up several new computers.

Eddie Moreside, Director of Downeast EMS preparing to certify our Criminal Justice students in First-Aid/CPR. The students were engaged and enjoyed this hands-on training. Certifications were given to all students, including their instructor Dale Earle.

I am reminding students that Nikki Vachon will be holding the FASFA Workshop tomorrow evening for students and parents. The workshop will be held at WCCC in the assembly room at Riverview Hall, beginning at 6 p.m.
Nikki will be available to walk students and parents step by step through this sometimes confusing process.
The early bird gets the (money). :) Please try to attend.
Below, you will find Nikki's contact information. She would be more than happy to provide one-on-one help as well.

YOUTH PREPAREDNESS COUNCIL SEEKING APPLICATIONS FROM MAINE STUDENTS
The Youth Preparedness Council (YPC) was created in 2012 to bring together youth leaders interested in supporting disaster preparedness and making a difference in their communities by completing disaster preparedness projects nationally and locally.
The council supports FEMA’s commitment to involve America’s youth in preparedness-related activities. It also provides young people an opportunity to present their perspectives, feedback, and opinions to FEMA staff. Members regularly meet with staff and attend the annual Youth Preparedness Council virtual summit.
FEMA is now accepting applications for the Youth Preparedness Council. This program is a phenomenal opportunity for young leaders in grades eight through 11th. Applications are due no later than March 4th. The link below provides all needed information, including an informational Zoom webinar to learn more. It has been a very long time since Maine had a representative. Can a Calais Middle or High School student help change that?

Excited for Clinicals next week!
