Maine CTE held a student leadership conference on September 25th at the Maine Army National Guard National Training Institute in Bangor. Six SCRTC students attended: Averie Kelley, Cameron Harmon, Camryn St Jean, Kailey Lincoln, Star Huckins, and Yvonne Cook. The day consisted of four breakout sessions: Leading with Integrity, Industry Connections, where students practiced soft skills, Mastering Linkedin, and Crafting your Digital Persona. Command Sergeant Major Alex Clifford, the Keynote speaker, blew the students away with his heartfelt, real-life wisdom. The entire day was filled with how to embody your best self, and this was modeled by all those presenting. Attending was a privilege, and the student feedback was some of the best I have yet to hear.

Quoted from MRTQ Shortcuts "On Saturday, September 21st, MRTQ PDN's Washington County District Coordinator, Theresa Fisk, joined forces with MaineAEYC, St. Croix Regional Technical Center, and Washington County Community College to hold the 2024 Washington County ECE Conference "Meeting Children Where They Are: Thoughts Beyond the Blueprint". Today, Automotive, Culinary, Computer Technology, and Early Childhood all treated their morning students to a delightful breakfast at Crumbs. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to enjoy a special treat together. We want to remind you that there is still time to enroll in the 2024-2025 SCRTC programs. If you are considering enrolling or have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Calais High School had their class night on May 30th and students from SCRTC that worked on their Behavior Health Professional (BHP) blended course through the Early Childhood Education program were presented a certificate of completion. Once they turn 18 and graduate their official certificate will be sent out in the mail. This is a certification that can be used anywhere in the state of Maine and will never expire.

Today our ECE students brought something sweet to their coordinating teachers at the Calais Elementary School. Our program would not succeed without all their support and guidance throughout the school year. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for our students and program. Another big shoutout to John Cowell for helping organize this and having the sweets all packaged up and ready to go.

RealCare Baby® 3 (formerly known as Baby Think It Over® or BTIO®) is the world’s most advanced infant simulator. Educators around the world use this unique learning aid to teach early childhood, parenting, and infant health lessons. This smart baby adds meaning and accountability by using wireless programming to track and report on caregiver behaviors. During a simulation experience, users:
• Determine whether Baby needs feeding, burping, rocking or changing
• Dress Baby appropriately for weather/temperature
• Handle Baby correctly and respond to Baby’s cries for care
Baby’s software can:
• Track care events, abuse, surrounding temperatures, time in a car seat and clothing changes
• Customize simulations using schedules based on real infants
• Receive and print detailed assessment reports for student's portfolio
Taylor and Maia were the first to take home a RealCare Infant simulator from the 2024 ECE class. Just look at those smiles!

Hello everyone,
My name is Lauren Remington. I am the Early Childhood Occupations instructor at SCRTC. I wanted to inform you of the exciting new opportunities coming to our program!
SCRTC has added new concurrent enrollment course opportunities through Washington County Community College. Along with the new college courses we have also added a new certification, Behavior Health Professional also known as BHP through Woodford.
Incorporating these college credits and certifications into our CTE program will better equip our students for success beyond high school. By giving them this FREE head start, we can provide them with even more tools to succeed in their future endeavors.

Attention to all parents or guardians who have a full-time ECE student; attached you will find our May newsletters with some important upcoming events to mark on your calendar.

On Thursday, May 9th Mrs Remington had the opportunity to attend Woodland Junior Senior High School's Top Ten ceremony to speak on behalf of Rylee who earned 6th in her class and this is what she had to say...
"I am honored to be here today to speak on behalf of Rylee Kinney daughter of Joshua and Courtney Kinney. I have had the privilege of getting to know Rylee as her Early Childhood Education instructor over the school year. Throughout our time together, Rylee has consistently demonstrated dedication, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic in all her endeavors. She has been an exceptional student in the Early Childhood Education program, showcasing a deep passion for working with young children and a natural talent for fostering their growth and development.
Rylee’s academic performance has been outstanding, consistently earning top marks in her coursework. Her commitment to learning and her ability to apply knowledge to practical settings have been impressive. Moreover, she actively engages in extracurricular activities such as soccer and tennis, demonstrating her well-rounded nature and ability to manage her time effectively.
Beyond her academic achievements, Rylee has been actively involved in over 10 hours of community service through the ECE program, reflecting her strong sense of civic responsibility and desire to give back to her community. She was also nominated to become a member of the National Technical Honor Society.
I am particularly impressed by Rylee’s leadership skills, as evidenced by her participation in Skills USA. She has consistently demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with her peers, communicate effectively, and solve problems creatively. Rylee participated in the prepared speech. She was so creative in ways to memorize her speech she actually recorded herself and played at any opportunity she had. I do have a question for you Rylee….do you still hear your speech being played in your dreams?
Eleanor Roosevelt once said “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” Rylee you have all the hard skills and soft skills needed to be successful in any pathway your heart desires. Your academic excellence, leadership qualities, and commitment to service make you unlike any other. I will miss your infectious smile and positive attitude so much next year. I’m thankful to have seen the young girl who I got to know through refereeing basketball in Alexander become the young lady who is going to conquer the world! "
We are so lucky to have had you as a part of the SCRTC Early Childhood Education program and can't wait to see all the wonderful things you will do in your next chapter of life!
