The Blue Devil Health Center is located on the campus of Calais Middle/High School in a bright new building with two exam rooms and private offices. It has been serving all enrolled students in grades 7-12 since 2004. Our health center provides comprehensive adolescent health care including medical care and counseling services. We are staffed by a physician, two nurse practitioners, a counselor, a registered nurse and a medication aide.
School health services aim to keep students in school and ready to learn. Students don’t need to miss classes and parents don’t need to miss work for students to receive care. We work with your primary care physician to coordinate care and meet your student’s individual needs. Medical services include diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, management of chronic illnesses (such as asthma), immunizations, prescriptions, physical examinations, and minor laboratory testing. Individual counseling services to address most adolescent issues are available on-site in our private offices. Nursing services include medication management and administration and health promotion activities.
The health center receives oversight from an advisory committee made up of doctors, school administrators, parents, students and community members. Funding occurs through a combination of health insurance reimbursement, school support, private payments and small grants. No student is denied services due to the inability to pay. There is no fee to enroll in the health center.
